Due to increasing numbers of teachers and staff who are either COVID positive, experiencing symptoms, or exposed, we have made the decision for Haleyville Elementary to be Virtual Wednesday, January 19th-Friday, January 21st. We simply do not have enough staff to cover all of our classes. We feel it is important for us to attempt to stop any further spread at HES by taking time to deep clean and disinfect our buildings over the next few days. HES students will be given the devices and information they need today so that they can learn over the next 3 days from home. If you experience any trouble with online learning, your teachers will be on campus. You can call HES, and they will get back with you as soon as possible. As a district, Haleyville City Schools are still under 3% COVID positive, which is not too bad. HMS and HHS will continue on their normal schedules Wednesday-Friday. We have low numbers of positives in these buildings and feel that in-person learning is best if at all possible. We will do another OneCall and post on social media if anything changes. As always, student safety is our top priority. Please Share! #HCSSLI

The CDC and ADPH has changed some of the COVID guidelines and as of this week, K-12 schools are included in the changes that were made. Below are the guidelines that Haleyville City Schools ask you to follow as we navigate through this new variant. If you have tested POSITIVE: You will quarantine for 5 days whether you are vaccinated or not. You should not return to school until you are fever free for 24 hours (We realize that this might be over 5 days. All days will be excused as COVID days, and will not count against exemption). Students will be required to wear a mask at all times unless eating or drinking for an additional 5 days upon returning to school. If you have been EXPOSED to a POSITIVE: No matter what your vaccination status is, you should wear a mask at all times for 10 days and watch closely for symptoms. Siblings or children of POSITIVE cases MUST wear a mask for 10 days if you live in the same household. Masks are still MANDATORY for all bus riders per federal guidelines. We will follow our original plan from the opening of school that if 3 or more students in a class test positive, the entire class will wear a mask for 10 days. We will communicate with parents if this is the case. If you have a sick child, please contact your child's pediatrician or doctor prior to bringing them to school for guidance. We are doing the best we can to navigate this situation. We will continue to clean and disinfect all areas of our schools carefully and thoroughly. Please be patient and give some grace as we work to keep students in school with as normal a school day as possible at this time. If you have questions, please contact your child's school. AHSAA Newsletter ELI MUSSO, HALEYVILLE: Keyed a fourth-quarter comeback that resulted in 28 straight points that erased a 21-3 Hamilton lead and the Lions won the 4A, Region 5 thriller 31-28. Musso had TD runs of 1 and 40 yards, the last one providing the winning points, and finished with 14 carries for 120 rushing yards. Zeke Shipman booted a 40-yard field goal for Haleyville’s only first-half points – and in the end provided the winning margin.
